Join us for an informal social gathering — some holiday cookies, cider and good conversation about current events, both political and personal as well as brain storming ideas for 2020. Just follow the signs at UUCP.
Big things ahead! Join the RepresentUs National Leaders’ Call to get the inside scoop on some exciting updates to our Volunteer Program.
We asked volunteer leaders how to improve the RepresentUs volunteer experience, and now we’re putting your ideas into practice. Over the next few weeks RepresentUs will be rolling out a revamped volunteer program. This includes re-thinking how we guide volunteers to take action and unveiling two brand new volunteer teams that folks across the U.S. can join.
Join our call to hear from RepresentUs Organizing Manager James Jameson about where the volunteer program is headed, and ask any questions that may arise during the presentation. Not a leader? No worries, all RepresentUs volunteers and supporters are welcome to listen in.
Here is everything you need to know:
What: SPECIAL EDITION RepresentUs Leaders’ Call
When: Tuesday, November 19th at 8pm ET
Why: Get the inside scoop on some exciting changes to the RepresentUs Volunteer Program
Robert Greenwald’s new film, “Suppressed”, highlights voter suppression tactics and policies used in Georgia in 2018 that could be deployed nationally in 2020 to disenfranchise voters. Everything Americans are fighting to achieve – immigration reform, ending mass incarceration, gun control, environmental justice – will only be possible if all Americans have equal access to vote.
“Fixing our broken elections” is a top-priority of Represent.Us. We do our work in New Jersey across a broad spectrum, including secret “dark money” swamping our elections and ranked-choice voting to remove the “spoiler” effect on voter choices. In 2018, we joined 100+ organizations to fight a stealth attempt at partisan gerrymandering.
Voter suppression, like “dark money” and gerrymandering, represents a tipping point for our democracy. Join us to find out what you can do.
Voter turnout for this campaign is the most critical factor — in a city with over 4 million voters, less than 400,000 are expected to head to the polls on November 5th. Luckily, RepresentUs members like you can support voter turnout both in person and from home, no matter where you are in the country.
If you don’t live near New York City, join the Text Team. We have a goal of sending close to 1 million texts to New York City voters between now and Election Day on November 5th, driving as many voters to the polls as possible to vote Yes on 1. To join the Text Team, sign up for a shift or two here. https://www.mobilize.us/rankthevotenyc/event/140499/
Texting officially starts on Monday, October 21st. If you want to get started early, you can sign up for a shift over the weekend, and we’ll message you as soon as the lists are ready to go! Once you RSVP, look for an email that will explain the easy three-step process to get set up and ready to send texts.
After years of grassroots activism and pressure, Represent New Jersey successfully got the “End Dark Money” Law (S-150) on the books. The law is set to go into effect soon, but the Koch brothers’ organization, Americans for Prosperity, is suing to stop the law with an injunction to order to keep dark money in New Jersey politics.
On September 17th, Represent New Jersey leaders will face the Koch Brothers in court for the first time. Join members and concerned New Jersey citizens outside the courthouse to let our NJ Chapter know we have their back, and that New Jersey-ans deserve to know who is trying to buy political influence.
This injunction has the potential to sideline the enormous progress that has been made in the fight against dark money in New Jersey for months, if not years. We need to make sure Represent New Jersey leaders know the people have their back as these special interest groups hold political transparency hostage in our elections. Join us for this historic anti-corruption fight.
We’ll take a summer break in August and will return in full force in the fall. Our next meeting on September 21st will kickoff a new campaign. And, to do that, we will have a special guest speaker — Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker talking about his bill to bring “Ranked Choice Voting” to New Jersey (A-5205). We will also hear the latest updates on court challenges and remedies to the “Dark Money” Law (S-150), where we should expect insights from Assemblyman Zwicker too.
We’re aiming to have “SRO” in the Fahs theater at UUCP on 9/21 at 11 AM
at 50 Cherry Hill Rd, Princeton. Come early, bring friends, and claim your seat!
